  • {deciding on a new name}

I guess maybe it’s time to finally change my username after all these years.
    Hutch5 doesn’t fit us anymore. :)

Of course the obvious is simply changing it to Hutch6~
but for some reason that one just doesn’t jive with me.
It doesn’t have the same ring or something.

Like when you stand on top of a mountain and shout it out really loud 10 times…
Try it. It just doesn’t work.

Besides, I feel like we’re about to embark on something different in our lives –
more than just a new chapter, a whole new book.
An adventure like we’ve never had.

Not merely standing on the edge of the unknown – but jumping out into it’s dark abyss.

And not a little jump either…
the kind you back way up for, run as hard as you can, shut your eyes extra tight, heart pounding out of your chest, and. JUMP!
Hoping somehow you’ll land on your feet and not die in the process. :)

    So…
a new name on the place I document our crazy wonderful journey only seems right.

One night, back when I was on bedrest, but not sleeping :) .. I played around on Picnik with the ones I was thinking about.

Here they are – tell me which one you like best::

I will say, I like the “grace” ones more than the “focus” ones…

Since I’m feelin G.R.A.C.E is sorta, kinda, totally, completely the theme of our lives right now! :)

    ****~   **

We’re planning on doing our annual family Christmas pics on Saturday, so I’m working/ trying to decide on outfits.
Here’s our family shoots from years past – just for fun. 07.08.09.

I’ve never been a huge RED person, but found these shoes at Baby Gap and loved and bought.

Is it bad to plan a whole photo shoot around a pair of shoes??

    grams & gramps visit 068

I’m thinking black and white w. some great splashes of red here and there.

And this chair… it would fit nicely too.

Are your Christmas pictures done yet?
Do you get stressed with the process…
or, I should say, does your husband and kids get stressed with the process? ;)

I admit I always feel a bit nervous cause I have this “artsy vision” in my head of what I want it to look like -
and no, not just the given expectation of everyone looking at the camera at the same time and no fingers up noses {yes, that includes adults too}.

And if this poison ivy doesn’t clear up by then remember when you get your Christmas card I do not have a strange birth mark or was recently rescued from a burning building! I did say I wanted splashes of red here and there didn’t I…

  • I like the “places of grace” but maybe adding the “discovering the grace to be, and the room to become” on to it. Perhaps because it feels like that’s a lot of where I’m at personally so that rings true to me. :)  I love the picture you’ve been working with – and fun edits too! Wow! I was just thinking about you, this morning I think, and wondering if you will stay with xanga or go with another [wordpress, blogspot, etc]?? I remember you had mentioned at another time you were thinking of it? Just curious. :)

And no, we haven’t done our Christmas pictures yet, unless I use pictures from an impromptu shoot earlier this summer… And yes, planned photo shoots tend to be a little stressful for us. :) It involves giving up my vision of what I expect and desire!! However,  I have two littles, not several older children, so I hope it goes really well for you!

  • I like Grace2Be cause that’s where I’m at right now…..learning to just love without fear so that others can be who they are meant to be. Grace is HUGE, so I’d go with one of the grace ones ;) . Love those darling shoes…we’ve got our pics done, but if it was only me ;0…we’d take a redo, and of course no one is agreeing to that so we’ll go with what we have. Hope they go well for you, I’m sure you’ll get something delightful, even if someone needs to pick a booger or two ;) .

  • Places of Grace
It’s where the journey takes us.

  • It will seem really strange for a little seeing you with a different name but i totally understand.  I like the places of grace one the best.

The red shoes are just so cute and no, not wierd at all to work around them.  I def. get stressed over photo taking…. i hope it goes really well for you.  loved the chair too.

  • I like all the new names, and love the  picture you worked with…. and I really like those red shoes!!

  • I love the look of “grace2be” the way you have it arranged!
Places of Grace sounds like a place I want to come and just hang out for a while.
    Either one….
anything relating to grace grabs me!
    I want to be it,
    live in it,
    offer it!

As for Christmas pictures, I think I just finally surrendered to the thought of not doing them….again.
    I love to get them,
    love to send them,
but I’m trying real hard to prioritize where we are, and what’s important.
    maybe another year.
    Hope yours turns out well!

  • I have to say placesofgrace has my vote. :) I love your dry humor in conveying how you stress over fulfilling your artistic vision.

And no, we haven’t done our Christmas pictures yet, but I just ordered outfits for the kids. Now we have to coordinate ourselves and hope for a great turn-out, which would include a happy baby and a cooperative small boy. Aaaand a mama with a great hair day. That would be helpful.

  • grace2be- Thats’s my vote for your new name.  Christmas pictures are hit and miss here- usually miss, and when they get done, it is just the kiddos.  Not an issue worth pushing around here.  And I’m ok with that.  Mostly.  I’m sure yours will be fabulous and “artsy”!  Love the shoes and the chair.

  • Beautiful pictures Amber!  Can’t wait to see how the Christmas pictures turn out.  As for the name, grace2be is my top choice but no matter what name you choose for your blog I know it will always be filled with your heart and with the things God is teaching you, and that is why people read.

  • Places of Grace…my fav.  I love the little red shoes.  Our Christmas pics are going to be silver, gray, black and white with splashes of red.  I love that look!    I guess one of my girls needs to get married around Christmas!  Praying for God’s grace to be with you in great measures through this week and next.  There are some very difficult moments ahead..but KNOW that God’s grace is present in all of them.

  • i vote places of grace :)

  • The first one is the one that grabbed me – familiar places of grace!

We took our Christmas pics while we were in Glen Rose, and will take some of Pam and Will while we are there Thanksgiving, then do a combo of all my little families!

Red is my favorite color, and I love the idea of b/w with splashes of red – and it is PERFECTLY acceptable to plan Christmas photos around an adorable pair of shoes!  Love the chair, too!

Blessings as you go through these changes – and may you find the dark abyss full of the Light of Christ!!!

  • places of grace. that’s the one I’m feelin’–before I read the comments too and found out it was everyone else’s
i’m just going to use our summer family photo for Christmas….it’s about as recent as it gets, and we don’t get one as good as that usually–summery as it may be I’ll design the card around it, I guess………
I like the opening song you have up right now….it’s so fitting to the mood I’m in right now…

  • I like the 3rd one down only call it- place of grace- with the little saying attached.

Christmas picture idea- black/white with splashes of red. . . terrific. What kind of background? (Ours are done, YIPEE!)

    When is the big move?

    –Praying–

  • The “places of grace” is my choice of wording, unless you just say “place of grace”.  And I adore those little red shoes.  Maybe use forest green and white/cream with them instead of black?  Whatever you come up with, it will be gorgeous, I’m sure.  When is your move coming?

  • I like #2  I’m looking forward to hearing about this journey you are about to embark on.  Can you imagine not knowing that it is the Lord who is leading the way?  Praying your packing is going smoothly for you.  Our movers came today and delivered everything…but I’m sitting here at the vacation rental w/ a broken arm- NOT where I want to be right now!

  • ((hugs)) I can’t pick…I like them all!  Love you, friend.

  • Grace2be seems perfect! Because we all know it takes “Grace 2 be” a Mom, a wife and certainly a family!! Actually hate to think where we would be without it

  • I personally like the placesofgrace one… no matter where you go… that feels like it’s a name that will always follow….

I know I don’t always comment, but I must say that your photography is always impeccable! And your posts always provoke some kind of inspiration toward life in me… as someone who is sooo far from how your life is. So thanks.

And ‘The House that Built Me’ = longevity of the little things… in one song.

  • I like “Familiar Places of Grace”  It’s more like a blogging title.  : )

We always wait ’till the last minute for our Christmas photo.  LOL  But I have had the wheels turning in my mind about what and where.  : )  Coming up with nothing yet.  We usually focus our photo around what we have Lilly wear.  HAHAHA  Obviously, she’s the cutest in the photo.  : ) Thought about Spring Grove.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

  • I like the grace ones better too.  They all look good though…it’s hard to choose.

Love those red shoes, and the chair.  So eager to see the photos of all of you together.

  • Definitely something with grace! I like Places of Grace…

Re: Christmas pictures, I just don’t do them, it removes all stress!!

  • I liked “grace 2 be” the best, for your new blog header. =)

  • Hey, Amber.  I’ve been missing you & while I was checking your blog, my kids were sitting here.  You know the kind of “sitting” where they’re climbing all over you because they’ve been missing you?   But just thought I’d tell you that my 2 year old saw your profile pic & said “that’s a pretty girl, Mom”.  Then Trevor said, “Is that your kinda girl, Mom?”  I had to laugh & told him that “yes, she’s definitely my kinda girl”.  Hoping you’ll find the time to come next week.

  • They really are all great! What a hard decision. I think I like #3 the most. Can’t wait to see your Christmas pics. Those little shoes are adorable.

  • I *really* like the Places of Grace name.  Although if you had another baby in the future, you could keep Hutch5.

    ~Lauren

  • @thegrabertribe -

aw. your comment made me teary, Beth. miss you too. and YES – i was talking to my mom tonight about keeping the kids. i think it just might work..!!! =)

  • I love the last one. And I love how you describe things. And I love the black and white with splashes of red idea for Christmas pictures, which, NO, we haven’t done yet. And I love the whole G.R.A.C.E. thing. In fact, maybe that should be your name: G.R.A.C.E. 2 Be. I’ll pray about that annoying poison Ivy. Can’t believe what all happens to you, but it always makes for great reading and keeps me on my praying knees, always talkin’ to the Lord about you Girly!

  • aww! i’m a little sad at no more Hutch5. but, i agree with all that you have going on in life, it feels like an appropriate time for a change on the blog too, and esp. since you are no longer Hutch5, PTL!!

i’m voting for the grace2be, but with the second picture. course, maybe you’re not really voting on the pics…just the name. i’m drawn to names that include numbers like that, and Grace is sooo prevalent to life for all of us, yet, i think there are times when it becomes so real, so….’i cannot live without it’…like you said, a theme of life.

Christmas pictures? just the thought, or even reading the idea, makes me feel stressed. i used to say that i’m not that fond of shooting pictures of nature, scenery, etc. but, i’m starting to really like that now, and i think it’s cuz it does not talk back, make faces, cry or act uncooperative. But, i was thinking of mentioning to my hubs that this weekend would be a Nice time to try for some pics….if i can muster the patience and acceptance that i have to have to try for some pics with my dahhhling children!! (they really are great, it’s just i haul out the camera, and all you-know-what breaks loose!) anyhow…i hope your photo shoot goes great!! you always come up with some super fun ideas!! if you’d be closer, i’d see if i could bring my gang to you to do ours!:O)

happy rest of the week dearie!!

    love ya~

    R

  • P.S. I love your music…I’m one of those who come here and just leave it on so I can hear the music; some of it is on my MP3, (which is missing in action), so this is really a treat! And I love a treat, whether it’s fabulous music or a piece of yummy cake or a new pair of shoes! Hugs!!!

  • oh, i just clicked on your pics from last year, and two things…

your kids!! look how they’ve grown!! so beautiful!

and, that skirt you’re wearing…it would really go perfect with what i have in mind for our pics!!! ;O)

or, just bring it to the next ffe… and i’ll bid it up til i get it!! ;O

    love~

  • Curiously, my ministry partner and I are presenting services next month titled “Places of Grace.”
The idea is that it is in times of difficulty that we often find the greatest grace.

  • I love the “places of grace.” Those little shoes are a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e!!

  • Places of Grace gets my vote! :)

I haven’t done pictures for Christmas cards but maybe that is because I am single. I usually make my own though because I love to make things.

Anxiously awaiting the birth of your new name.

  • I can’t choose either….maybe Places of Grace. I do like that one.  Love all the pictures, and NO, it’s great to plan a whole shoot around shoes! ;)

  • No Hutch5plus1, huh? LOL!!!

    Okay then, grace2be

Just pray, Amber, as you narrow these down. God will give you the name with a perfect fit!

  • @foreveranoatneygirl -

which one? the purple one? i’ll send it to ya if it is. mean it. :)

  • Any of the grace ones.
You will decide the best one for you….

    Nice banners.
    All of them.

    Love the shoes BTW.
Never too young to have red shoes!!!!!
    My faves.

  • @Hutch5 - doggonit! i did not see that you had 3 years there. i had only looked at 08 and i was drooling over the grey one. BUT, the purple is quite nice too! quite! and, to be totally honest, if it would fit, i was thinking of doing greys and blacks and purple for our pics…hmmm. ;O

happy friday, and here’s to minimal itching!!!

  • Grace2be.

    that’s so HIM.

    and so you.

    coming back.

  • Oh they are all wonderful~ the right one will find it’s place.

YES~ a photo shoot with red baby gap shoes.  Sounds perfect!  I admire your perspective.

  • Grace 2 Be is my favorite…a friend introduced me to your site and I love what you write and your photos are fun and awesome!

  • Love the idea of Grace! I liked both Places of Grace and grace 2 be.

Those little red shoes are adorable, and such a good place to start! You are so creative, it will be fun to see what you come up with.
I haven’t given up having our older, married, kids in the photo yet, so since they do not live local I end up doing a collage of photos or will use the extended family shots from when they were down!

We will probably have a photo shoot with my sis when they are here at Christmas! Always a challenge to arrange schedules, so then coordinating outfits is not part of it!!

  • I vote Grace2Be!!! Simply love the pics!

  • I think places of grace sounds the best. :)

  • I really love “places of grace” and am wishing I had thought of it.  I’ve considered changing my screen name many times, but just can’t quite come up with anything that grabs me.

  • Oh, dear.  I have been OFF xanga for so long–pretty much ever since Reece was born–and now I come back and see something about a heart monitor…picture me scrolling frantically through posts trying to find out what  that’s about.  Anyway, I’m hoping that all is well???

But I have missed so very much!  You have poison ivy and you’re actually MOVING?  Wow.  I’ll be praying for you.  Sounds totally huge to move right after a new baby.  Of course, it sounds totally huge to move anyway…    Bless you and all of yours!

  • I will be praying for you all, Amber, as you plan to move.  You are amazing to do Christmas pics with all you have going on right now.  My last post was the two pics I’m thinking of using for Christmas cards.  One is so not me…too posed and well not me but it was taken with a really good camera.  My beach one is the one I’m thinking of using because it fits us more.  It was spur of the moment and relaxed.  Check them out if you have time and let me know what you think.  Praying the Lord bless you and your family at this very busy time in your life!!! ~Deborah

  • familiar places
    discovering….

  • I love #3 even though it will take me a long time to stop thinking of you as hutch5! But most of all, I”m just so glad I know Amber! Absolutely adorable baby shoes! Can’t wait to see the pictures. I have not had a family picture I’ve been super happy with since Liam was 3 months old. Whenever I’m lucky enough to be around Christy, we mess around too long and there’s never enough light left and we end up blurry. Now it took me way too long to think up what I wanted to do and now that I’ve got the idea in my mind, I can’t seem to find the clothes I need for the boys. So we’ll see if they ever happen or not. :) Have fun with yours (and be glad your baby isn’t old enough to run out of the picture yet!)

  • Love the grace one! “the grace to be” would be my choice. “Grace to be” sounds a little bit like… mom-to-be… as in, not yet here. And I want you to have it now!

Love the photo ideas – can’t wait to see what you come up with. When is your moving day? I miss you.

  • grace2(or to-either one!)be. love that.

  • Places of Grace is my fave
OLIVE OIL for your poison ivy! Trust me! My son got a VERy bad case of it a couple of years ago – he is allergic to it. He looked like the elephant man and I have pics to prove it. His piano teacher recommended olive oil and he has not ONE scar on his face or anywhere on his whole body! It healed very quickly too. (btw – are you sure those shoes are going to fit you?)

  • see, i have this problem. :)
i have a little time (i.e. the kids are watching a movie a.k.a. busy with the sitter)
so i came back to comment,
and then i start reading it all again.
and oh wait. pics from others years? gotta check ‘em out.
snort. laugh. itchy noses and crying child. looks like us, only it’s you.
hey. i didn’t even know you then. my but the kids were small.
and oh emma. just a baby.
and then i need to read other comments
at least all of the flip floppers
(scuse me. just got a pumpkin cake out of the oven. can you say delicious?!)
    and…
    where does the time go???

    anyway.

love ya dear. i think that maybe you will always be Hutch5. even though you are now amber, my friend.
waaaay more than a username. but still. you know, don’t ya? how THAT name sticks?!

it was fun reading all of the opinions. i know that i still like the way grace2be looks with that number in there.
and then i just love that word too. GRACE. because i need so much. glad that HE is good at it!

it makes CoMpLetE sense to plan a family photo around shoes! course! love ‘em!
we had two attempts. sigh. i like them sorta but not really. i’m trying hard because i don’t want to try again is what it is!!!
i had the wrong film speed and then my cheapo digital gave us what it is supposed to give us, cheapo digital. not that having a good camera would have helped us~can’t run it. did i tell you that one of my teenagers made faces behind my back ruining our first shoot? grrrrrrr. could.not.believe.it.

hey. big weekend. i know. hugs and prayers…and grace2be…

  • Wow! I did not know how popular your Blog would be. But it looks like a whole lot more comments than I get.
I wanted to let you know that I copied your post “(it doesn’t always go that way)” you wrote in July (July 21), and used it as an illustration this past week at a Convalescent home. It fit with a message on trusting the Lord. Thank you for what you reminded us about: sometimes, what is happening with us in life makes no sense, but yet we need to live trusting the Lord to bring us through it. (He does not leave us stuck in the middle of it–it just seems like it, at times) Thank you.

  • I vote for places of grace (sorry so long in responding… haven’t been on here in a while).

Love you. Praying for you to feel better (sort of… if you keep feeling poorly, do you get to stay?)
