{the truest kind of fellowship}
“It is not necessary to always be speaking to God…Or always hearing from God, to have communion with Him;
There is an inarticulate fellowship more sweet than words.
The little child can sit all day long beside its busy mother and, although few words are spoken on either side,
and both are busy… the one at his absorbing play, the other at her engrossing work –yet both are in perfect fellowship.
He knows that she is there, and she knows that he is all right.
So the saint and the Savior can go on for hours in the silent fellowship of love…
We can be busy about the most common things, and yet conscious that every little thing we do is touched with the complexion of His presence, and the sense of His approval and blessing.
And then, when pressed with burdens and trouble too complicated to put into words and too mysterious to tell or understand -
how sweet it is to fall back into His blessed arms, and just sob out the sorrow that we cannot speak.”
~ Streams in the Desert
I was looking for an old post and came across this one from June 07… and thought I’d re post.
neat to see the comments then, and some of the friendships that have grown more dear through the years.
Amazing I’ve been blogging that long {even longer}.. and my baby is such a BABY in these photos!
It was good for my heart to be reminded of this truth again…
and though much has changed from the first time I posted this, till now…
one thing remains~
Him.
and I’m glad for the open invitation always available me to draw near,
sit at His feet…
no words needed.
He knows I’m there.
and most importantly,
He’d glad to have me around.
Do you ever think about God looking at you and a big ole smile breaking out on His face!!

Beautiful!
I can’t contemplate what God is thinking but if he’s like me, he would smile once in a while because of the compassion of regular people.
I don’t think I ever thought that before, but it must be true. Thanks. Your daughter was/is adorable.
Do you ever think about God looking at you and a big ole smile breaking out on His face!! – YES!
So beautiful… and when I listen to Him through His Word, I feel like a little child sitting in his Father’s lap, listening to His gentle teaching. I love my Father so much, and this entry was so uplifting to me this morning. Thank you, sister.
I love your thoughts, thanks for sharing. Emma is so cute and she’s so small in the pictures! I like the first one! Have a great weekend!
Glad you “reposted” this. What a blessing to know that I don’t have to speak to be in communion with my Saviour. I love the analogy of the child with it’s mother.
And I need His smile today ~ just feeling really morose and grumpy this morning ~ no excuse for it either. So dear Lord, smile THROUGH me somehow, so people see YOU instead of this yucky me today.
“I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place;I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face;Content to let the world go by to know no gain or loss,My sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.”
SO PRECIOUS!
(the words and the sweet Emma pictures!!!)
awwww….look at that sweet baby…she is so cute!
Love the thoughts from the devotion…particularly “how sweet it is to fall back into His blessed arms and sob out the sorrows we cannot speak”…I love that line.
I don’t think I’ve been around Xanga since June 07′ but I can tell you Amber it’s been a sweet spot for me to get to know you in this cyber way…you have been a true blessing in my life and your blog has held much richness and encouragement that you’ve shared with others…I’m certain God is smiling.
p.s. That is the song Beneath the cross of Jesus and it was on my mind as I read.
Streams in the Desert has been my daily devotional since my sister gave it to me in 1999. It is filled with inspiration and encouragement.
P.S. Your children are adorable. Love the banner pics.
Such sweet pictures of your daughter as a babe. I also love the photos in your header! Your children are beautiful.
“So the saint and the Savior can go on for hours in the silent fellowship of love…We can be busy about the most common things, and yet conscious that every little thing we do is touched with the complexion of His presence, and the sense of His approval and blessing.” – LOVE THIS!!
I love that from Streams in the Desert. and what a little cutie. Thanks, my “friend across the miles” =)
I do hope I bring my Lord pleasure! I am reading a book by Richard Foster called Prayer — Finding the Heart’s True Home, and your post reminded me of parts of the book. He says too many have a “stained glass” idea about prayer — that it can only be in a certain way, and in a certain place. Really, many of us pray all day long, because we are in fellowship with the Father! Lovely post, and your little girl … wow! She has grown!
Nice post, Amber.
My mother adored the book – Steams In The Desert.
It was always nearby while I was growing up.
Enjoy this day.
xo
Your header is so cute and I love the baby pictures of Emma- what a cutie she was (and is!).
@daisychains_2 -
yes, i like that hymn- perfect for this post too.
@DawneElla -
What a little cutie (she is still just as cute). What peaceful post, sometimes it’s the little things that we read that mean the most. I’m glad I “stumbled” upon your blog, it’s been a blessing.
Hope you have a good weekend.
I have a copy of Streams, as well, I love it.
The pictures are dear, and the green is so soft and pretty on her.
Oh yes, I know God is smiling as he looks down on me (and you) and all his own dear children.
Streams in the Desert evokes found memories,my first copy was given me as a college student in 69.I began a small ladies Bible study from it and witnessed much fruit. There is alot of richness among those pages,and I’m encouraged to know the younger generation appreciates it also. Your blog site is lovely. God’s Blessings,Carol
Oh, those words are just so good! Thanks for putting it up. It’s a thought I need to hear. Sweet, sweet pics of your baby, too.
@Carol Duerstock -
i was given my first copy by a lady i worked for in Chicago who used it as a devotional study each morning b/fore we started work~
this is good
Yes, I absolutely do.
Emma is sooooo little! What a sweet little pie she is!! ~I could eat her up!!
I absolutely agree with these words! I have experienced that with the Lord because Christ is in me and I can not only wear his love like a warm jacket, I feel the love from inside, kind of like a secret knowing and glowing. The music of Bella’s lullabye is exactly how I feel Christ alot of times; gorgeous, happy, gifted, flowing creativity, unending promise, confident, source of hope!
Beautiful post! I love the pictures and the pink accents
I hope God can think of me and smile. It’s a very happy and comforting thought.
I think most things I do make Him smile, roll His eyes, and then He tells a few angels to watch over me!
YES! How I love the sense of knowing my Father is with me all the time!
Hi Amber! It’s funny that you commented on our blog today, because I was just on your site today trying to “catch up” on your posts since I’ve been off of xanga for a while because of school. I always enjoy your pictures and the things you write. Your family is beautiful.
Our New Years Day bonfire is the highlight of my year. It’s great having such a big and fun group….and collecting the trees is super fun as well!
I’ve never played that shoe game before, but it sounds like a fun idea…I’ll put it on my list of games to play.
Blessings!
~Lauren
Thanks for sharing this…I love the fact that we can live in His presence, that we can draw near to Him, and that He draws near to us! Blessed as always by visiting here.
I am…drinking tea and smiling too.
