{my bandaided-belly-button story}
I was supposed to meet my mom for lunch this afternoon and running late {surprise!}, so I quickly just reached in my closet and grabbed one of my sundresses that didn’t need ironing.. or atleast too obviously. Before heading out the door I walked past the full length mirror in our room and stopped. Something grabbed my attention I hadn’t noticed before – actually, it’s never happened to me in any of my other pregnancies….
My belly button was sticking out!
Which I can’t even say “belly button” any more without thinking of this song~
I can hear Emma’s little voice in my head singing, “belwee buddon, ooo-ooo.”
I thought I’d stick it on for fun to watch with your kids{you’ll for sure have to turn the playlist off for this one.. the two don’t mix well}
I stopped and cocked my head to one side thinking of how funny and just.. odd it looked.
Then, took my index finger and pushed it down.
As if thinking I could poke it back in or something?
duh.Since my shoes were already on – the ones my husband has to buckle for me
I didn’t really feel like changing, or have time. And since I didn’t think it would look noRmaL to walk around with my finger on my belly button all afternoon I suddenly got a genius thought… “I’ll bandaid it.”
I went down the hall to the bathroom and was happy to discover we actually did have some left in the house…
Usually when I buy them the casualties seem to instantly double round here.
One didn’t seem thick enough.. so I put on a few {like 3or4or6??} more.
And was quite pleased with my little square invention that DID work to hold the bulge in…However.. like most of my impulsive ideas I didn’t necessarily think it through to the end. :/
Let’s just saw I now know that all these years that I’ve told my kids ripping their bandaids off quickly will be less painful than pulling it off slowly is A Lie~!!! It’s a wonder I didn’t rip my whole belly button out in the process. I now have this nice square patch of bare skin in the middle of my stomach that kinda sorta in a cool way resembles the state of Montana! Actually I’m not sure what that state looks like – I just randomly picked one. But it does look like the shape of a state. I think. Though I guess you can’t really take my word for it since I’m not sure what they all even look like, right? and yes, I’m a homeschool mom – but that has nothing to do with it!

I had all these spiritual analogies come to mind about wanting to stick a “bandaid” over the things in our lives we don’t want others to see~ which is why I began this post to start with. But.. as I watched the belly button video above they all seemed to have left me!
Think I’ll go find a ice pack and head to bed instead.
a few notes to self on the subject as i close though::
1. embrace the changes in your body
2. but avoid sundresses that reveal them so obviously
3. and remember, pregnant women in their last trimester seldom have genius thoughts!
happy weekend~!

you are too funny! love your humor Amber…
Maybe you could use the suggestion my doctor gave me years ago when I had a baby whose belly-button stuck out! He had me tape a button over it – one that fit the size of the belly-button but helped to hold it in! I think you could ONE bandaid would hold it in!
He’s also the one who suggested keeping on hand a little bottle of “pure coke syrup” for kids upset stomachs. You could buy it for a couple dollars at any drug store back then! Both worked great!
Enjoy your real life posts!
haha! thats so hilarious, your blessed not to have your belly-button swelled by now, my sisters had there’s with their firsts.
hopefully mine won’t get too huge when I get Prego
Thanks for the laugh
Thanks for the song and the smiles.
I’m a bit self conscious about my belly button, too. It is not an “outie,” but it looks strange because I had some tumors removed lapro-optically, and they were larger than the doctor originally thought. The plan was to pull them out through my belly button. Hmm… they had to make my BB BIGGER to get them out. Then, when they sewed it up, they used dissolveable (word?) stitches, which I turned out to be allergic to.. so, they had to be removed, and my poor BB just …um…. spread.
We are all unique, right? Goodness! I don’t think I have ever shared that story with ANYONE before. Giggle!
oh, i’m laughing myself silly! at your expense, obviously, but thanks for the cute, easy-to-picture-happening-story to start my saturday!
love ya!

THAT was my hugest fear when i was pg. I so did not want an outie belly button. thankfully the button co-operated. that time.
Cute hilarious story, thanks for being ok w/ sharing.
Dear funny friend, Would you allow me to add one more to “self-reflexion ” ?
Don’t ever be late for a lunch appointment with your mother: enjoy intensely preparing for it…..( in other words: meet her and her bellybottun in a relaxed way )…
You have a nice weekend too…I always enjoy your “onhandige capriolen “.
Lieve groeten
Godeliva
i was waiting for the analogy….because that’s you. that’s what i’m used to, and i like it.
guess i’ll have to be a big girl and come up with my own this time.
was the sundress green?
hope you enjoyed your lunch with your mom….the last one before you lost your belly button due to peeling many band-aids.
and that’s a sensitive spot! o-u-c-h!
love you!
Soooo funny and so very well told….In our home Duct Tape solves most problems maybe you could try that! LOL
My friend’s husband fell off their roof and hurt his ribs. She wrapped his torso in Duct tape, hoping not to have to go to the ER. Hours later the pain continued so they hurried to the ER. The doctor was outraged with her………Not only that but she had quite a time getting the tape residue off her husband’s torso later.
I remember thinking about that when I was pregnant all those years ago, but the maternity clothes we wore back then were the big, puffy kind with big collars - you know, they made you look like a pregnant school-girl. I worried for nothing, however. I was “innie” all the way. Hope your bandaid removal doesn’t pain you for long!

“( in other words: meet her and her bellybottun in a relaxed way )…”
haha! great advice~ i’m going to follow it too! =)
Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But oh, my word, how funNY! My aunt used to use a bandaid on her pg outie, but I think she only used one and I thought it was supposed to work. I had a horrible outie with Liam. It’s the only nice thing about the horrible, horrible medical support hose I have to wear for varicosities the entire pregnancy…they’re tight enough to keep anything in. Except when they don’t stay up where they’re supposed to.
How much longer do you have to EDD? I cannot wait to see baby girl!
OUCH! I cringed in pain for you at the thought of ripping band-aids off such a sensitive spot!
@grams53 -
a button? that’s funny to picture~ but probably less painful than a bunch of bandaids!
i think the older doctors had better advice than some of these newer ones today. i love hearing my grandma and even my mom tell about all the things they did or tried with their kids…
good to have you around again!
hope you’ve enjoyed your summer!
@DanishDoll -
now THAT sounds way more painful than bandaids! glad you felt the freedom to share!
and i like your perspective on seeing it as part of God’s unique design for YOU. xo
@totallycherished -
no.. not the green one. i have other issues when i wear that one, remember…
@Lucy_or_Ethel -
duct tape! oh, that poor man! that cracks me up though cause i have a brother who happens to have a thing w/ duct taping wounds!!
so funny hearing others “homemade solutions”
a great story to begin my weekend! there is nothing better than starting with a laugh!!
Hahaha!!! You are hilarious!!!!! I can’t remember which pregnacy it was, but I tried using a bandaid to cover my belly button, oh wait, it was Allison, so my 4th. Anyway, it didn’t work, but I only used 1 or 2, not 3 ir 4 or 6!!! Lol! Hope you have a great weekend! =)
Mine never completely stuck out but with baby number 4 it was AWFULLY close!
Isn’t going out to lunch so much fun?!
Have a great weekend!
LOL what a cute, honest story! I love it. And I loved the video!
I love this line “Remember…pregnant women in their third trimester seldom have genius ideas.”
I had an outie with one of the kids and I think I did use a band-aid over it. But just one.
Also, laughing to myself about the “shape of a certain state…don’t know which one” thing. You’re too funny!
Oh, no! Yikes…hope it heals quickly.
you nut! for the future…somehow I discovered to take off band-aids pain free with a q-tip dipped in mineral or baby oil and smoothed around the edges then worked under…kind of like using goo-gone but for skin.
I got outies with all my kids!
If I have a 4th maybe I’ll try putting a band-aid on it! Actually with my last, my belly button herniated. It is not dangerous but fairly painful!
When I was pregnant, my belly button turned into a belly cave. It was HUGE, like a mouth. It took a year after Damon was born for it to go back to its original size.
lol, mine was completely flat until yesterday, then it popped out too!
Hillarious! The only benefit of an outie? You can clean it really well. Once the baby comes, I can’t find the bottom of mine for months!
I love you Amber and I’m praying for you that God will grant the most wonderful time of your life completing this pregnancy and sharing with your mama…

I’ve had a bandaid on my bellybutton quite a bit in the last twelve years haha! and people think I’ve been buying them for my kids….
I like the cinderella ones.
LOL!
Fabulously funny! Isn’t it weired how this time, your belly button pokes out? Bodies are interesting! I love Danish Doll’s story! And I like what Godeliva said! Hugs to you and your belly, GAil
LOL! Everyone is wondering what I’m laughing at.
Definitely brought a smile to my evening. On the flip side….the “outie” was the way that I knew I was pregnant with my 3rd!!!! I am one whose belly button pops early….
As far as not having genius thoughts……my/ third tri-mester thoughts seem to be more along the lines of….”Now, what did I get up for?”, “What was I going to do?”, “Where did I leave my keys/phone/ etc.?”…lol
I loved this!
Amber~That is SO funny! My belly button popped this pregnancy too for the first time. Crazy what we go through to get these little ones here!! But it sure makes life more fun when we can laugh about it!! Can’t wait to meet her!
lol..your too funny. I always think popped out belly buttons showing (underneath clothes) on pregnant ladies is cute.
lol! Great post.

p.s. I am from Montana!
yep, i have these issues too and it just feels so un-feminine…. i have a feeling you won’t have to deal with it much longer though so take a deep breath and stick to #1.
FUNNY!(: I love reading all your stuff. Serious or not(;
Oh, how funny! Love your stories and your humor!
snort.laugh.choke.you are so funny!
i love the “at least too obviously” in regards to ironing. feeling like kindred spirits about that…
which reminds me. does your ear hurt? cuz both of mine sure do. that whole talking while working thing i guess.
maybe it depends on exactly how long. ya think?! lol.
states, huh?! totally hilarious! so what was it before the bandaid? florida? idaho? howabout michigan?
i also enjoy your notes to self and everyday real life analogies that make so much sense! i don’t know anything about bandaid analogies…except when i read that i immediately thought of how i’ve carried one of those variety boxes throughout life. some are tiny and discreet. some were handed out at church :O still others i whip out and on for major coverage. but my 2 all time trusty favs are water resistant (they stay on way longer) and have analgesic cream preapplied to the little white pad thingy. yep! a.k.a. the pursuit of performance aaaaand ShOpPinG!!!
still not caught up around here. but as i was scrolling down…i saw that i have alot to look forward too
…
thinking about verses…i’ll come back, but lately its been Is. 43:19
thanks…for you know. love ya.
