  • {would you pray with me}

My grandpa was taken to the hospital last night with chest pains…
they ran tests this morning and discovered every artery was blocked, except one -
    which was 70 % blocked!

The doctors said he’s a walking time bomb – and are doing open heart surgery asap.

I find it strange that several months back when he was taken to the er with the same thing they said no blockages were found… and I wonder, can someone have this severe of heart condition happen in a matter of months? Or was the medical system faulty?

Makes my heart grow a bit anxious in other ways too~
I was telling my mom this morning that dad needs to have his heart looked at, since heart conditions are hereditary.
And actually, every person in my family and life I care about should go in for an exam.. or two .. or three.
just to be sure!  I mean, really really sure they’re okay. :)

I can see my Christmas gifts now, “Coupon: good for one free ride to doctor’s office to have your health checked.”

But even in the midst of worry for Gramps I find myself smiling over my thought pattern –
thinking I can somehow control things..
thinking I can take measures and precautions to “guarantee” I’m secure, happy, and get what I want~
which is, by the way, for my entire family to be raptured together and never have to face sickness or death. :)

I’m reminded too with all this that people who seek control are nothing more than people led by fear.

Sure, fear is an emotion that grips our hearts when we don’t know what the outcome of something will be -
but I believe in the Sovereignty of God and that everything serves His purpose and plan.

Our lives are in His hands.
I believe that with all my heart.

But even having said all that I would really appreciate your prayers ~
That God would let us keep Gramps down here a bit more. :)

He’s the only Grandpa I’ve known (never knew my mom’s dad).. and we’re very close.
He’s exactly everything you’d imagine a grandpa should/ and would be.

I’d love for you to sit and hear his stories.
    They’re amazing.
    Like from another world…
a world that’s mesmerized me since I was child and would hear him tell of it.

here’s a video I posted last year~ to give you a glimpse more of who he is.
Gramps is talking about how he and his brothers got the same thing every year for Christmas – rubber boots.
I love it when he says you could “smell them rubber boots…”
and he knew his dad had bought them, and they would get so excited.

My grandparents will be celebrating 63 of marriage next week too – the 18th!
They were married when Grams was 14, and Gramps 20.
Like I said, another world. ;)

I read these verses this morning and wrote them down –
guess God knew I’d be needing them today.

“Out of the depths have I cried unto you…Lord, hear my prayer.
I wait for you, my soul does wait, and in your word do I find hope.”  Ps.130

  • Will be praying for you, Amber. I know this feeling. Glad that HE is in control and running all things by the WORD of HIS power. hugs~

  • So hard not to worry a lot when these things happen… I know… Praying for him and for all of you!

  • praying, sweet friend~

  • I’ll be praying for you and the family! You can trust God that His will, will be done! Never fear!

  • What a treasure that video is!  We’ll be praying for him and your whole family.  20 and 14- wow!

  • How wonderful that he got to the doctors before something terrible happened…it sounds like you have a great relationship with your grandparent’s and that’s something to be thankful for!

I’ll be praying for you guys and I hope you can update soon!

  • Praying for your Grandpa. We have had several loved ones have open heart surgery. It is a miracle. They went back to full life. The recovery period is a bit rough, but I am sure your family can help in that.
My Nick runs many tests, as he works for a group of Cardiologists. I will ask him what is up with that. I think he has explained before that there is some plaque that doesn’t show up until there is a blockage, but it can be suspected by some blood levels of certain substances being elevated, so that could alert people. I will ask him for specifics.
Love the DVD, remember it from last year. It is a treasure to have those stories, and to remember to be so thankful and excited for new rubber boots!

  • Yes, we will be praying…..grandparents are such wonderful people to have in your lives…

  • What a nice video! I remember my grandparents well — three of them were still living when I got married. My parents were 20 and 16 when they were married 70 years ago and they have just recently moved to a Sr. Living Center.

Praying for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

  • Count me in. I’m praying too.

Oh friend. Your thoughts on control and fear…I know about those.
Best buds they are. Hand in hand they go. Not what I want hanging around.
    Thanks for sharing Ps. 130.

    love. hugs.

  • Stopping to pray right now!  And will keep your gramps in my prayers ~ for success in surgery and recovery!

  • I’m sorry your grandpa (and all of you too….) is going through this.  I will pray for him and your family.

I would love to listen to my Pop-Pop talk too.  He died just before my 18th birthday.  Great video of your gramps.

  • Praying… What a great video.

  • Praying for you guys and your grandfather.

  • Saying a prayer….thanks for sharing the video.  Im sure he is very special to all of you!

  • Oh Amber, I’ll be praying for you and your grandpa and the rest of your family.

  • Will be praying!  And then praying some more.

  • I remember that video of your grandfather and also remember how I loved it then, and I loved hearing it again today! You have my word – I’m praying.

And, yes, you can have a different result a month or two earlier and then the test shows all kinds of blockage problems next time around. Same thing happened to our pastor this year.

  • Yes, I’ll be praying with you and your family.  Praying that the doctors have wisdom as they perform the surgery.

  • p.s., the picture totally makes me think about not being able to see the forest for the trees. im stuck in the gear of depth, and its cool, but its annoying.

    beautiful family, thanks for sharing.

  • Praying for your sweet Grandpa and for the family as y’all wait.

  • Oh Dearie, I’m praying for you all; I know how hard it is to give up wanting to control and to live in fear! I was going through that yesterday afternoon and eve., while wondering if my son Jonathan would be safe in a blizzard! Your Grampa seems like a special person and i know how much you’d love to have him around! lLast night I was praying for each of my friends who’ve lost loved ones and asked the Lord to sustain each one and comfort them. It would be ideal if we could all “go” together! But, of course, God’s way is not always our ideal. I do hope your Gramps has complete healing! I  do care very, very much! Love, GAil

  • prayers heading your way and what a great verse to meditate upon :)

  • praying for him…and his family. can i ask the same of you? my mom had surgery today to remove her ovaries ( hysterectomy was in 1963 after my birth) and when the surgeon got in there they found her appendix very enlarged as well…removed that, and are testing everything for cancer. she has been living with pain for about a year now, and didnt know what was wrong. i know the Lord is faithful even when we’re not, and am completely trusting in Him. the power of prayer is so mighty…we would appreciate all we can get! Blessings ~ Robin

  • Will pray for your Grandpa…he may well need surgery, but I can’t let this pass without telling you that I work at a christian lifestyle center in CA and we have been able to help people with 95% blockages in up to nine arteries to regain their health without surgery and would be happy to share if you are interested. Alternatively…it is something you might want to look into because unless he changes his lifestyle they will just clog up again. May God keep His hand over him.

  • Prayers for you as you surrender your loved one to the care of the medical professionals.  Prayers for wisdom and care on the part of those taking care of him, and prayers for a speedy recovery.

My 89 year old grandmother is currently hospitalized after falling and breaking a hip.  She is several hours away and I wish I could just go visit.

Hugs and prayers of comfort from a xanga “friend” :) .

  • We will be praying for your Grandpa!  Keep us posted on how he’s doing!

  • Will pray also. Your grandpa is a gem-you are blessed with a godly heritage.

  • having just lost my dearest of dear granddaddy, my heart feels this strongly. I am praying for recovery for him. complete healing of the heart. He sound like a wonderful person through and through.~~truly a gift from God to you and everyone who knows him. wow, 14 and 20! what a short childhood that must have been back then… and to think I thought leaving at 18ish was a short childhood!

  • Prayer sent! trust God with it!

  • We will be praying for him and you! I just had to cry watching that, what a sweet man Your words were exactly what I needed to read this morning. We are expecting our 9th child. We found out I have marginal cord insertion, which can be a prob or not but on top of that I get Choliostasis of preg and a few other rare things I was up most of the night just feeling for her to move. I know I am NOT in control and need to be reminded of that often. My husband is always saying this but it was good to hear the Lord reminding me of this this morning through your blog

    Joli

  • God bless u with grace and peace and healing for gramps…i’m sure it’s a difficult time! i’ll pray for u!

  • That is so sweet, Amber–Love the video!  And I am praying for him right now.  I agree that it’s really weird about the sudden change…makes it hard to trust med personnel.  But our trust is in GOD anyway, dear friend!!!  Rest in Him.  (((((((many hugs))))))

  • oh, I just noticed your new header.  Love LOVE LOVE it!

  • Prayers and love to you and your family.

  • I will pray.

I’ll have to come back to see your video, this setting I’m using is not letting me see it…

Love the red pick-up truck pic… That is truly adorable…

Count me praying. Wisdom, discernment…healing in Jesus name. Angels around your grandpa, and the best of care…Favor with the hospital staff too. (super-tight hugs)

  • Amber, that is so special. He’s in my prayers. My dad had open heart surgery (triple bypass) when he was 77. He did excellent and is 82 now and going strong, until the Lord calls him home. We can’t control much of anything, can we? I’ve certainly learned that, but it doesn’t stop me from trying sometimes.

  • big prayers sent from Minnesota…keep us updated!

  • How’s your grandpa? Hope things went well, that sounds scary. So I saw on another site you left a comment that Shane got a buck. My husband wants pics asap he said ;) . So if you get a chance, post one……he thinks he has to keep track of every buck that’s shot in the nation ;)

  • May the Lord hold your heart in peace and help you to stand in faith….and may your Grandpa come through the surgery beautifully.

  • Hope everything is well with your Grandpa…still praying

  • Thinking of your Grandpa, you, the whole family…praying.

  • Praying for health for your Grandpa and for you to trust God! It is a huge privilege to have living grandparents, but it is so easy to take them for granted. Thanks for reminding me of the need to value mine more than I do!

  • praying…for him, for you, for the family….for health, for peace, for HIS presence to be exceedingly near…

    hugs~
