  • {God at Breakfast}

This morning at breakfast Emma asked,

“does Dod hab wike tons of power?”

    “He sure does?”

“is he wike able to jump ober big buildings n fings?”

“I guess He could if He wanted to.”

“is he weally weally tall and takes up wots of space?”

    “Yes. He’s everywhere.”

Her forehead frowned and she sat thoughtfully for a minute…

“but benny twold me Dod wiffz here in our house wif us?”

    “And He does…”

I could see the question about to come so I went on -

“God is so big and so powerful and able to be everywhere in the world all at the same time and yet He chooses to be here with us too… sitting right here next to us while we eat breakfast! Do you think He likes pancakes?”

She wrinkled her nose and laughed as I went on….

“God loves us so much. and He likes being with us. I think He likes being with us more than jumping over big buildings and stuff….”

I wasn’t sure if I should say more.
I waited to see by her expression if it was registering in her little head.

Then, I watched as she got up and walked over to the empty chair at the table and began pulling it around, closer by hers. When it was as close as she could get it she climbed back up in her own, picked up her syrupy fork, and said in a matter of fact no big deal kind of way -

“Dare. I want Dod to sit white by me!”

    Yes.

    I think she got it.

And hopefully we’ll all “get it” today and be encouraged by the thought….

    That God, the Omnipotent All Powerful Creator of this world – whom the Bible describes as, “…. having a head as white as wool, as white as snow. and His eyes were flames of fire. His feet were like brass, like a burning furnace. and His voice like the sound of many waters. He had in His right hand seven stars, and out of His mouth went a sharp two edged sword – {I love this next part} - and His face was as the sun that shineth in His strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as one that was dead. And He laid His hand on me{a God of relationship} – and said, “Fear not. I am the first and last. I am He that liveth, and was dead. But behold, I am alive forevermore, amen. And I hold the keys of hell and death……” {revelation 1:14-18}

    THAT God…..
He CHOOSES to be near us!!!

    wow.

Makes me want to move my chair closer too.

  • Perfect. . . what a wonderful way to start the week. . .thanks for sharing :o )

  • sweet little Emma. :)

  • And we wonder why Jesus said we should be like little children.  Such faith and trust!!

Oh, and I’d like an orange popsicle please.

  • FRIENDSHIP isn’t how U forGet but how U forGive, Not how U liSten but how U UnderStand, Not what U see but how U feel, and not how U Let Go but how U hold oN!!!

  • I love that image… I’m a physical affection so I’m all about scooting closer. It’s so good to see our children wanting to relate to God as REAL LIVE THERE WITH US RIGHT HERE AND NOW. :D

    ~ I want a popsicle. :(

  • Little children can teach us a lot if we just listen.

  • I agree with ata_grandma. Simply precious.

  • So sweet! The faith of a child……

  • Precious! And a good reminder that God CHOOSES to be near to us!

  • That picture of God sitting in that chair RIGHT next to us is SO sweet! My heart needed to hear that today!

  • the kind of thing money cannot buy. completely priceless!!

  • What a girl! It can be hard to wrap one’s mind around the fact that God WANTS and CHOOSES to draw close and lets us draw close to Him. Thanks for sharing this sweet story!!  <3

  • That is so precious.  It’s amazing how concrete children are.  They don’t “spiritualize” things, they just BELIEVE!

  • Simple sweet so much nicer than the discussions about God I have been having.

  • So sweet! I think Emma definitely gets it better than even we do. :) I hope to remember all day just how close He is. Thanks again for sharing!

  • Love how she uses the word “like” is her little sentences.  You an hear the influence of older siblings!  So prescious!

this is a concept I’m still working on embracing…..not so much that he’s everywhere, but that He WANTS to be near me!

    Hope you’re doing well!!

  • @ABAHM -

i think he wanted to eat them all… he brought them out on the patio Sat. one for each of us – and two for him, since he was the “popsicle delivery boy.” so he said.

  • How sweet. =)  Love the popsicle picture, too cute.

  • …out of the mouth of babes!

I’ll take a red one please!

  • Some of the most beautiful words I have ever read~

  • That’s precious!

  • I needed to be reminded to scoot my chair closer~~thanks!!

  • Hubby and I are both chuckling over this ~ too, too cute ~ go Emma!!!

  • Em does it again…. what a sweet, gentle spirit and how neat of her mamma to be sensitive as she guides her in all those God  questions.  I’m moving my chair up closer too.

  • Out of the mouth of babes…..love it!

  • LOL!!  I love this!!

Lilly asks me all the time if Jesus held me when I was a baby.  Which led from—–about two years ago(?), out of the blue she said that Jesus was with her when she was a baby.  I asked her where.  She said that he held her before she was in my belly.  And then told me that Jesus was with her after she was born too.   It made me cry and still to this day, if I think about it–like typing it now, I tear up.  She said it so nonchalant.  It really comforted me because I was always so worried about her while she was in the NICU.  But I know in my heart that Jesus had to be with her before and after with the situation we had gone through.  I truly believe it.  : )   And I believe he touched her for her to breeze right through being born that early through her 59 day stay and still now—a healthy, vibrant, beautiful girl that she is become and to the young woman she will become.

It’s so interesting listening to our children discover things and how they process it in that little head of theirs.  Sometimes, it’s totally random.  Sometimes, not so much.  But you can always tell when the wheels are turning!!

  • Love it…inspires me!! She is a doll…and your words are so dear to my heart…oh that all my kids would long to “move their chair closer”….and that my heart would be gifted with this childlike faith!!

  • howdy Amber, just stopped in to say howdy and check on ya, see how you’re doing!

  • pulling my chair closer
    to my superhero
who doesn’t just swoop in to save the day
    but swoops in…to save ME
    and He stays.
    He comes.
    And He stays.

    love all the I Am’s…
    “…fear not.
I am the first and last.
I am He that liveth, and was dead.
    But behold,
I am alive forevermore, amen. “

thanks. i learn alot from you…and your little emma!
    happy wednesday!

  • Ahhh I love it Kids really are a great check and balance system for our faith. I so wish so many times I could get it the way a child does….

  • That is SO sweet and cute! ENCOURAGING too since recently I was having a hard time feeling like God’s presence was near, feeling so lonely at home. Thanks for sharing. =) ♥

  • Incredibly sweet!  And I love that Rev. quote.  There’s a song in a hymnal we use sometimes that uses those words, and I just love it!
