  • {being right vs. being righteous}

    Ever wake up and not really want to go to church..?
    Today was one of those mornings.

    Not really any particular reason.
    okay. maybe I could have thought of a few. ;)
    Really good spiritual reasons too like…
    being tired.not wanting to brush my teeth.take a shower.shave my prickly legs.comb my hair. put on make up. choose 1 of the 2 skirts i can fit in. and bend over and buckle my shoes.

    In other words I kinda just wanted to attend the Community Church of Bedland -where the motto “come as you are” was first cloned. i.e:: bad breath.prickly legs.unfixed hair. de-make-uped face. pj’s. and barfeet!!!

    know what changed my mind….?
    having my 4 year old come running in jumping up and down on my bed and saying enthusiastically

    “tom on mom… today’s the day we doe to church!”

    and suddenly. watching her excitement and hearing her voice fluctuate up and down with each bounce made my heart feel instantly lighter, and want to be JUST LIKE THAT! the enthusiasm, not the bouncing. ;)

    So I got up and began the above mentioned list of necessities to make me approachable to the outside world.

    As I was ironing Shayne had the radio playing.
    There’s this old lady that hosts a program every Sunday morning named, Drexanne Evers.
    And she’s as cute and quirky as her name sounds.
    I’ve never seen her, but I imagine her to look alot like my grandma -
    which is exactly as you would imagine a grandma is supposed to look!

    She plays songs from way before our time – and we always get a kick out of listening…
    between the songs and her narration before them it just puts us all in a happier mood on Sundays. :)

    This morning, this song came on.
    Which made us all laugh…

    especially considering I’d thought of a few of those “excuses” just a bit earlier myself!

    Glad I didn’t follow through with any of them though…
    church was GOOD! and I felt genuinely refreshed and encouraged.
    Which seems to often be the case with things like that, doesn’t it?

    When you’re the grumpiest about going is when you end up needing it the most!

    A good friend of ours talked today. He’s not a pastor, just a sincere guy with a love & passion for Christ.
    What he shared was something he felt God laid on his heart to tell the church.

    He’s funny, and I laughed alot… but the Holy Spirit also really used it to further drive in some nails of truth He’s been dealing with me about.

    The title was:: Is it more important to Be Right than it is to Be Righteous?

    It’s not that long. only about 35 min. but I think you’ll enjoy it if you listen…
    the cow story at the end is the best!

    {don’t know why it uploaded in 3 separate tracks, but it did. and you’ll need to turn off my playlist}

    track1::

    track2::

    track3::

    have a great week ahead!

  • Sweet pics here at the end.  I hope to have time to listen to the audio tomorrow – I’ve been wanting to listen all day but no opportunity.

    I so understand about not wanting to make the effort to go to church; and then the blessing received when the effort is made!  I stayed home with Mama and Daddy today, but am excited to watch the DVDs Bill brought me of todays services.

  • love that excuses song…too cute! I might just have to look up that radio program is sounds so fun!

  • Are you doing well? Have you been feeling well? Remind me when the baby is due…..I’ve missed following your posts.

  • It seems like it was a great weekend for good sermons! My roommate and I (went to separate churches) both had some time to talk it over today. She’s not a Christian but has dated a decent number of Christian guys and is curious, so that’s been exciting for us both to have someone to kinda talk about stuff from another perspective.

    Ben and Emma are too cute. You and Shayne done good making another one of those cuties. I’m selfishly glad because I have never seen any one of your babies on a day-by-day basis like I will get to with this one, through blogs and photos! (You have to post daily photos now… the Internet demands it!)

  • I’m gonna have to make an excuse here and say I do not have time to listen to this good stuff right now! I overslept, and have to get breakfast ready and get my house guest up and….. uh… lots of stuff! I will come back later if I can! I’m glad you went to church!

  • adorable pictures of Ben and Emma! What cuties! I too often attend Bedside baptist these days :) and I am not even prego so have no excuse but laziness
    Will be back to listen to what you posted.
    Have a wonderful new week~

  • I want to leave my “good morning” before I go to your suggested sites. Your writing of Little Emma with her lisp is precious, so precious. I hope you are feeling as well as possible as you progress with this wee little baby.

  • My mother used to sing this Excuses song many many times when I was growing up. :) In the past years I could have often found a perfect reason to stay home, but I always feel better attending unless I or one of the boys are truly sick.

    Our children inspire us often, thankfully. grin.

    Loved the last three pictures. That last one looks a bit like her mommy on one of my FFE pictures. (chuckle) Cuteness!!

     Hope your week is filled with special blessings, and way w-way better then last week. :)

  • Community church of Bedland, huh? Kind of want to attend there myself sometimes! I’ll have to come back and listen to the audio sometime when Liam is sleeping. He’s having lost-my-brother-to-school-adjustment today again. Hope you have a super happy week! Love to you ~

  • “When you’re the grumpiest about going is when you end up needing it the most!” — we’ve found this to be true over and over – we are always so blessed when we do go despite not feeling like it- I wonder if the enemy knows those Sundays are gonna be good for us so he attacks with excuses not to attend church that day.

    Hope your Monday is off to a good start with lots of energy for you.

  • Good message. It’s hard to hear bu t worth listening to.

    I enjoy your posts!

  • I’ve never been to Community Church of Bedland, but I have visited St. Mattress down by the Springs.
    They’re pretty good about accepting you just as yo are there too!  :)

    Glad you were refreshed yesterday.
    I was too.
    Felt that same temptation to stay home.
    Only here it was a 13 yr. old that really wanted to go. (it’s all about friends at this age, and that’s ok)

  • I enjoyed the sermon.  Loved the point he made about Laodicea–that they were doing the right things, just not with the right heart.  And sometimes I have gone to church, like you, with a not-so-great heart, but thankfully God is faithful to redeem that imperfect heart and fill it with HIM!

  • So beautiful~ and precious are those desires to gather together~ to worship.  When I am out of remission~ my heart~ so much like your Emma~ is so eager it is church day.  But unable to go~ I must meet my Savoir here.  He is so faithful to meet me here~ and that beautiful expression on His presence, tells me He is just as eager.

  • can so identify!! with:

    “being tired.not wanting to brush my teeth.take a shower.shave my prickly legs.comb my hair. put on make up. choose 1 of the 2 skirts i can fit in. and bend over and buckle my shoes.

    In other words I kinda just wanted to attend the Community Church of Bedland -where the motto “come as you are” was first cloned. i.e:: bad breath.prickly legs.unfixed hair. de-make-uped face. pj’s. and barfeet!!!”

    and i`m not even preg!
    loved reading this. funny and meaty, too

  • feeling that way more than ever lately…and I’m not pregnant.
    I’ll be back to listen. Love the title…
    and know that this farm girl is gonna love a good cow story too!
    teehee.

  • @i_was_there_and_back_again -

    doing okay. baby is due sept.18th :) so excited for it to COME~

  • too funny. I used to get those excuses whispered in my ear the night before women’s Bible study. I am a bit slow, and it took me awhile to figure out where that voice “you don’t need to go” was coming from. Thankfully, I didn’t listen…I wanted to go! Thinking back on it though it amazes me how often that tactic was tried.

  • OOOHH, Sept 18th is comin! Praying for God’s best timing Amber. Excited that the days are growing closer til your little one is here.

  • i came back to listen…and it felt like i was really in church,
    except without any hair/make-up/smile-on-my-face prep,
    because i only heard about half of the sermon.

    one word. interruptions. :)

    “…if i loose the right to be heard because i have to be right…”
    whew. thinking. thinking about the crap…errr…junk on the fan around here.

    and it was Miss Vickie’s cow?! you have got to be kidding me.
    whew. thinking. thinking about the crap…errr…junk on the fan around here.
    their junk. ooops. kidding. MINE.

    thanks Amber…

  • @down_onthefarm -

    oh yes, i know – such a classic illustration of some sobering truths. the cow…

    after church i was teasing mark {viezbicke} – the guy who’s cow it actually was – saying that his response was the classic christian response too… “oh, but i own the back end!!!” it wasn’t MY part doing wrong! ;)

    i think this would make a cute childrens book —
    we could call it, The Christian Cow. :)

  • put my name down on your preorder list!
    autographed copies please.

  • you can take pictures of my cows for your book. free. no modeling fees. cuz we’re friends and all.

  • i know that they would be more than happy to pose on both sides of the fence.

  • Love the excuses song!  I’m going to listen to the other tracks tomorrow morning when I’m in the kitchen!  I too have had that feeling of wanting to visit The Bedside Church with Pastor Pillow.  Those are the mornings where the service is always exactly what my heart needs to hear!!! Hmmm, wonder why that is?!?!? Hope you are feeling well these days! =)
