{Outfit of Choice & Survey of Sorts}
Thanks to all who gave their opinion and fashion tips on what outfit I should wear for our family pictures…
I ended up going choice#1 with wide blue belt and heels.
At the last minute I decided to wear a different skirt.
which I’d found for 2 bucks,
which I thought was a wonderful deal,
which I thought was adorable.
But, you know how they say, ” always go with your first instinct.”
yeah.. I’m kinda feeling that as I look through the shots –
We’ve got browns and blues. browns and blues. browns and blues.
then suddenly…
Hello Bright Purple Skirt!!
Here’s a few of just the girls and I being silly..
waiting for the boys to come over,
who kept running to the van to listen to the Bengals game. :/
It’s always a funny {not really} thing when trying to get our once a year family Christmas pictures..
I swear, we could stand outside all day long in our own back yard and snap away..
wearing who cares what…
and acting which ever way we want…
and have every single shot turn out great.
But dress us up.
Haul us across town.
Try to pose us..
and bam!
It must be stage fright or something.
…every other one has someone’s eyes shut.
mouth open {wonder who that would be?}.
or the wind creating strange illusions…
like the longest nose hairs EVER!
We ended up with a whole entourage of family and friends there~
yes. it takes a village!
I so appreciate their help.
I’d like to say it was a fun time – but, well..
even I don’t find being in pictures “fun.”
{shhh.. don’t let my husband read that}
It was a bit ironic that I got a call the day after our 2nd attempt from a professional photographer..
reminding me that we’d won an all paid 2 hour session with as many people as I wanted to bring!
It was one of the prizes from that whole singing competition thing in the summer…
and I totally forgot!~
When I told Shayne he just stared at me with that blank, dumbfounded look he gets that needs no words.
Maybe if I convince him they could be our Christmas pictures for NEXT year he’ll cave.
We could just photo shop a few wrinkles in, don’t ya think…
==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==The other day while eating out I discovered a hair on my food.
I’m usually not overly freaked out by such things – -
hey, I’m the kid who ate ants when I was little.
And of course wanting to believe the best about others..
naturally I assume most people are generally “clean.”So I kept eating.
But upon the discovery of a second hair,
I took the sandwich apart and examined it more closely.
Taking bites from a few more safe looking areas. When I spotted another, that I’m not sure had been on the food or not..
just casually laying barely on the side of the plate –
I decided to eat no further. When we got our bill I asked the waiter if he would take mine off, explaining why.
He called the manager over who, after giving my explanation again, said-
“Um.. so there was a hair in your food.”
{why do people repeat what you just said?}I nodded and slightly corrected, “Hair-S! Yes sir.”
He acted a bit peeved and I saw his eyes glance up at my head…
“…and they were black.” I quickly added. “short….black… hair-S.”
As we left, the person I was with said she thought that was bold and could never say anything if it were her…
Bold? I just thought hair on food in a restaurant where you’re paying for what you assume will be quality service was a no brainer!! :/
But. maybe. I’m. wrong.
I have been before.
And then I became curious –
was I unusual?
I have been before.
So, I thought I’d run a survey for fun.
and to convince myself I’m not so unusual..
or maybe I’ll find out I am.
What do/have/or would you do in that situation?
a). Stop eating the minute you see it and not say a word.
b). Tell the waiter and ask for another meal
c). Keep eating it – carefully
d). Stand up and yell, ‘HAIR!’ Immediately exit the restaurant… grabbing the Purell from your purse on the way out!==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==::==
And with that wonderful imagery in mind.. it’s time for lunch!!

hope your day’s a happy one!
i should add: photo credit goes here.

Definitely B. Yuck! Cute skirt!!
B!!! And you know what? That’s happened to me at Chili’s….and when I told them- they have me a free $25 gift card…but nothing could erase the nasty feeling of removing another persons hair from my mouth. BLECK.
I’m afraid I’m A.
You are your girls look lovely.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the skirt!!!
e) not eat another bite cause even my own hair in food grosses me out YACK!!! and ask for the food to be taken off the bill. And do not take and offer of another meal, because just like in your case….fear of someone having a shedding problem and me eating one without knowing it, or finding it in my mouth, would really make me throw up. I have a bad hairy food phobia…just talking about it makes me kind of sickish feeling….when you said you started eating it again I said outloud..”NO AMBER!!”
I would do A, B, or D!!! Well, maybe not D, that’s what would be going on in my head!!! I do get freaky from hair in my food though! Love the pictures, all the flowers are so pretty!!! =) You girls look super cute!!!
“B” for me too. The thought of someone else’s hair in my food just repulses me. I. Mean. YUCK.
My appetite immediately goes when it happens.
B! although I do feel sorry for the waiters when I have to do stuff like that
We all laughed about your guys trying to listen the Bengals game during photos. =)
Love you.
Beautiful pictures! Maybe you can use the free sitting for some fabulous Easter pictures? I’m a little grossed out with the feeling of hair in my mouth. You were brave to “eat around” the hairs there for a bit. Think of all the things we DON’T see in our food. Makes me never want to eat out again…for a little while.
EWWW!! I think I probably would have shoved my plate away, told ‘em what was up, and been so grossed out that I would not have been able to eat another meal if they would have brought it to me! yuck! I’m easily grossed out by that sort of thing (can you tell?) so, just reading your story about makes me want to barf!
your husbands enthusiasm for family pictures is similar to mine:) I just said to him today that we still have not had a chance to get in another shoot for our Christmas pics…I’m just sure he’s been breathing one too many sighs of relief at all the cold, damp, gloomy weather we have been having.
Your pictures, btw, look great! will we see more?!:O)
have a blessed day!
♥~Rachel
I would have to take the bull by the horns and do B. This girl won’t be quiet but won’t be as dramatic as D. You go girlfriend.
I’m sure your picture is lovely. I like your purple skirt.
I add a dash of humor to everything.
I’d save the hairs ON the food (not removing them). Then, I’d call the waiter/manager, hold up my food, show them the hair/S and say, “I think someone’s wig is falling apart in your kitchen.” I would NOT ask for more food. I’d be afraid of what they would do to my next order! I’d accept a refund and nothing less.
But, of course, I’m OLD *and* BOLD!@!!!
Your pictures turned out nice!
That is a cute skirt!! Cute kiss’.
B.tell the waiter and ask for another meal (or whatever food item with hair) Forsure. I’d try to be nice, but no I would NOT eat around it.
that is such a cute skirt!
love those shots of you and your girls!
those pics are super stylish and sweet all at the same time.
and my goodness at the find of just 1 hair in my food I would ask for the manager and show them
….stop eating… and never return
Either a or c depending on how hungry I am. Like another commenter said, ordering another plate doesn’t necessarily safeguard against it not happening again!
E – stop eating, tell the waiter, ask it to be removed from my bill; and there’s no way I could order something else and eat it. yuck!
Love the pix!
ah, and hardly any pictures from you picture day?? i was hoping to see some (more)! i just got mine back…now, i’m trying to decided which ONE for the Christmas cards.
and, as for your hair/food story…I would go w/ b or d.
happy wednesday to you!
Cute pictures… I’d deffently say B!!
Beautiful pictures!!
I would definitely tell the waiter ~ not sure I would want another meal though ~ I wouldn’t want to pay for the meal or eat there any more, I guess.
I thought I had convinced myself to do a family Christmas photo shoot. But having had a small photo session last night before our date, I decided to reconsider my reconsidering.
Found out after the fact that the pictures were taken on the completely wrong setting ~~~very blurry/grainy .
And Jeff was so patient (I think I spent my alloted amount of husbandly picture patience for the next couple of months)
Hair in my food: There has to be an (e) for me. I’ve been known to lose my appetite for DAYS after discovering a hair. I don’t care if it’s my hair or someone else’s. It makes me gag to even think about it.
Soooooo, ANYway………
I would a. Stop eating the minute I see it and not say a word. Then b. Call the waiter over and ask for another meal. While c. Keep eating carefully while waiting on my next plate. Followed by d. Stand up and yell, ‘HAIR!’ Immediately exit the restaurant… grabbing the Purell from my purse on the way out!
See, you’re not so unusual! *snicker*
@onehappymomma -
easter pics are a great idea~ i can picture those w/ some cute little bunnies for the kiddos to hold!
but the photo gift card expires the end of this month.. :/ that’s why the lady called, to see if i wanted to schedule anything before it ran out!
I think B. I have heard they like you to tell them and have another meal vs. not being able to charge…but it would depend how much you already ate, and if you were totally grossed out by then. I am surprised at the attitude, because you want to keep customers! You made me laugh with d.
Love these pictures…the laughter and beauty of your daughters love is wonderful. As is the cute purple skirt!! Looking forward to seeing more.
You will not be able to use pics next year because your kids will change! Ha, i think you know that.
Love the 4th picture down.
As far as the hair problem….I would def. send the dinner away and get a new one. It’s disappointing that the staff wasn’t trying to help you out!
I don’t think I could have kept eating after even one hair if it wasn’t mine. Finding multiple hairs… eew.
I guess I can understand why the manager was skeptical though, I bet there are a lot of people out there who SAY they had something icky in their food so they can get a freebie, but still. yuck.
Beautiful. The kiss shot is awesome.Great cooridination with the colors and layering your clothing.I’m always asking my daughter for help in this area. She’s so gifted in this area.Picture day with the family ~ I would rather not even go there. No really my husband does a great job supporting me and does his best to keep everyone half way happy because he knows it means alot to me.
It’s kind of hard to have a settled stomach after reading about all the hair.I would choose B but just lately I did C.I’ve know idea why as I almost threw up trying to choke it down my throat.Hoping to see more of this photo shoot:)Good day to ya.carol
I normally just pick the hair out, but if I saw more than one it would gag me….and if it was small double triple gag…..SERIOUSLY GROSS
Your pictures are adorble! And we are the same way…bad dressed up pictures. Yours however do not look bad…so you officially stink… hehehe
Hope schooling is going well for you, and all else that you are involved in!!!
I would tell the waiter and see what they offered to do about it–then negotiate so I would be satisfied with the outcome. But I probably wouldn’t go back because the thought would be stuck in my head and I would gag just thinking about it. It’s wierd how the whole hair thing makes us shudder but finding a hair in your own home is not as revolting as a stranger’s hair!
I like the burst of purple in the outfits!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures! SO beautiful! You are gorgeous. just. flat. out. gorgeous!
And I think you actually side on the modest side in the whole hair in food story! I wouldn’t be quite as dramatic as D but not far behind! Come on, you are entering their establishment of business by choice and are expecting to be treated with dignity, since you have agreed to pay as soon as you order. But if they don’t keep their end of the deal up, you should not be expected to keep yours! GROSS ME OUT!!! ( : And I know there are mistakes that happen – good grief, my own family has found hair in my food, but a couple – just not acceptable! And not at a place of food service- they should be wearing hair nets!
Ok – I stepped of my soapbox now, and miss this xanga community – am hoping to be back in a few weeks!!
Love ya – MJ
Hi Amber,
You were SO sweet to help Lydia try to help me with my new blog! She hi-jacked my site and sent you that message BEFORE asking me if she could! But I really appreciate you giving her instructions on how to put my header up. She is still having trouble with it so it may be a while before I get all the kinks worked out.
My oldest two daughters (15 and 12) have followed your blog for quite a while and Lydia is so excited that you are my xanga friend now. We really enjoy reading your posts and looking at your beautiful pictures. My 3 year old son is quite smitten by Emma- he always says “she’s GORGEOUS!” when we are looking at your blog- it cracks me up!
Looking forward to seeing more of your Christmas pictures!
Kellie
uggggg…..not sure how I would respond. It sounds pretty gaggy, but after THREE I don’t think I could eat anymore either….yes, Im pretty sure I would say something by that point….
cute skirt, and cute pics! =) If it makes you feel any better, it took three attempts till I was satisfied, much to the dismay of my children….ha =)
Gorgeous photos – the purple skirt was a great choice!
B!!! I gagged just thinking about it!
Spring Grove!! That is one of my favorite tombs. I with they didn’t have it locked up like they do. It didn’t use to be like that ages ago. : ( LOVE that place. Haven’t been there in a little while.
I like the skirt too! Very pretty!
Think I would be the “B” too. If there was one hair, maybe not so caring but if I found more, then totally would say something!!!
As for the outfit, love the splash of color, keeps things interesting! And the little flowers in the hair are lovely!
The hair deal, well, since my parents own a bakery/resturant I have a little sympathy for the hair shedding human, that’s so embarressing! Even more sympathy for the hair consumer, yuck! I mean one hair is one thing, but on the third one I’d be leaving the meal and unless I was really loyal to the place never showing up again.
And the Christmas decorating in Nov. this early? I don’t know what to say about you, backsliding like that
Man I do love decorating in warm weather and so dread those freezin’ drippy days that I’ve done it before…..maybe I’ll join you. I could always leave the lights off until after Thanksgiving, that would help me feel better about it.
Cute skirt (and) great pictures!
For me I would have most assuredly sent it back. And just to think the manager was preturbed at YOU?!?!? Hmmm….
You and your children are gorgeous… I hope my family looks like that
UGH! I’m like you, I’d probably not make a big fuss over one hair…probably. But MULTIPLE hairs would definitely be pointed out to a waiter. And I would definitely expect to get some money back.
My husband once found half of a large bug in his Caesar salad. Yeah…half. It was a large winged creature that we didn’t recognize, and everything below the wings was missing. He pointed it out to the waitress, and she brought a new salad, but he’d pretty much lost his appetite for salad by then. The manager came over and apologized, said that they buy bags of salad that are imported from South America or somewhere, and it just happened occasionally and she was so very sorry. She gave us part of the meal free.
He also found a fingernail in his soft serve ice cream once–just the tip, but definitely disgusting. Yeah, he seems to have all the luck! Unfortunately, that was at a wedding rehearsal dinner, so he couldn’t even complain and get free ice cream or anything.
Definately B. You did a great job putting your outfits together, and I really like your nail polish. Would you mind sharing the color?
ahhhh amber! what gorgeous pics! like out of an anthropology cataglog. seriously adorable! all the clothes, and the colors, are perfect! LOVE the huge flowers in all your lovely hairs!!!!
did i mention “hairs”?
hee hee
well……i would DEFINITELY (quietly) mention it to my server. and i would be understandingly kind….as it certainly wasn’t the server’s fault. and i would hope for a free meal.
LOVE LOVE LOVE these sweet pictures!
@ABAHM -
no. we’ve made them promise they won’t grow up any more!! doesn’t seem to be working though~
@gemma_sam -
Amber, you’ve definitely hit a nerve with me here, about the hair issue! That EXACT same thing happened to me at the OLIVE GARDEN several years ago. I called the waiter over, and I think I remember the manager coming too, and, just like with your experience, they seemed unconcerned and did not offer to do anything except give a free dessert. I was on a tight schedule and didn’t ask to reorder because I was out of time; however, in retrospect what basis would I have for trusting the same staff for quality food the second time around? I think what you did was PERFECT and I plan to do exactly the same thing if that ever happens to me again. YES it is disgusting to find hair on your food, and one should not have to pay for such poor quality and service.
I loved these pictures of you and your girls. <3 Can’t wait to see the family pictures!
P.S. I’m curious about your nails, because my only reference point to dark nail polish is the “gothic” group on campus when I went to college. LOL I totally do not mean any offense, I am just bold in asking when I am curious about something. Also, keep in mind that I am someone who depends heavily on sisters for any sort of fashion advice!
Ha!
I would speak to the manager and ask why someone in the food prep area did not have their hair covered? If he was unresponsive, I’d report it to the local health department, our stores/ schools/restaurants have random inspections and ratings, so you can go online and see how they’ve been evaluated.
The purple skirt is outstanding in the pics….love it.
Hairs in your food. Gross. I had the same thing at a fast food restaurant not too long ago. I found not one….but two or three short black hairs as well. Since it was a fast food restaurant I brought my food item up to the front, they were extremely nice about it and immediately gave me a new fresh item. I can’t believe the staff treated you like that. That happened once to my husband and I at a nicer casual restaurant. His hamburger was burnt and my salad was swimming….they took our food back to the kitchen and examined it. They gave me something else but wouldn’t give my husband anything else. And the hamburger they gave me was burnt. I jsut don’t get that at all. I grew up in a restaurant, and the only way we would question anything like that is if a person was beligerant about it and it was obviously a needless rant which hardly ever, ever happened. No, they should have been humbled by your discoveroy and apologized and given it to you free plus a replacement. I would perhaps write the company, they would probably want to know how you were treated.
You take care now…love the pics! xxxooo ~amelia
@angiearmour -
~! not offended at all.. i’m a question asker too, so i get it.
ha.. okay.. about the polish.. so funny – i’ve had SEVERAL mention that! and there’s really not much of an explanation – i just like dark colors for nail polish! maybe i have an inner goth aspect i haven’t discovered yet or something.
when i bought that color it looked purple in the bottle, but when you put it on it’s more burgundy or something~ :/ we have all kinds of crazy funky colors around here.. kate paints her toes all the time – usually each one a different color. i make her be more conservative w/ her hands.
i’m lazy and kinda stick to one color for a long time – just painting the chipped areas over and over. my nails are so brittle.. usually in the summer when i’m gardening and such i have none. but they grow out a bit more in fall/winter. i feel like keeping polish on them helps them stay stronger, if that makes sense.
anyhoo.. fun talking about all this girly stuff.
love ya~
Haha. I think I’d stop eating and say nothing. At which point my husband would ask, “What’s wrong? Are you full already?” And I would answer “No, there’s a hair in my food.” And he would convince the waiter to take it back and either bring out something without a hair or eliminate it from our bill.
Those are very cute pictures and I love the outfit you chose – it goes so well with your daughters’ outfits. The skirt is beautiful, too!
@Hutch5 -
“maybe i have an inner goth aspect i haven’t discovered yet or something…” LOL LOVE it! Thanks for the reply and not taking offense; after I left that comment I thought, “Now WHY did I ask that? I am probably just making a fool of myself!” I actually thought your nails were black and wondered if that was now in the vogue. Anyway, all this talk about nails has me terribly guilt-ridden about mine, which are constantly neglected. I think I’ll try to grow them out a little and manicure a little more!
I inform the waiter after seeing the first hair – ask for another meal… and cautiously eat, feeling this gross feeling inside.~
love the girl-ie pics!!! and I’m a fan right now of the brighter colors. peacock colors were my idea for Christmas pics this year… built our whole pics around a pair of shoes I bought for $7 dollars – bright pink leopard shoes.
so fun. yeah for free shoots! I’m doing a couple of those this season for folks – always fun to give them away too
(as long as you’ve got other good paid clients
have a good one!
lys
A new dinner (meaning something different) or have them take it off my tab and get a hamburger on the way home.
I always like your pictures. Cant wait to see what “the keeper” picture will be.
#1! I think that’s the one I thought was best!
I shouldn’t have let myself be swayed by all those #3′s and boots.
Beautiful pictures, as always.
Purple is my absolutely favorite color……girl you didn’t do anything wrong saying something about the hair!! Much love!
I love how I totally know where these pictures were taken and they are SO cute. I love the skirt.
